Black Rhino Foundation, Inc. Attends May Day 2000

CHICAGO, IL — The Black Rhino Foundation, Inc. (BRF), a non–profit focusing on the preservation of African wildlife, specifically the highly endangered black rhino, attended May Day, the 5th annual international rhino conservation conference held May 13th, at the Royal Geographical Society, London, England.

The one day event was put together by the UK Rhino Group in association with BBC Wildlife Magazine. It was a day of lectures devoted to rhino conservation that gave people the chance to meet rhino conservationists from around the world and learn about their vital work.

The three rhino programs which the BRF helps support were present among others. Tim LaPage of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy; Sky Alibhai and Zoe Jewell, Rhinowatch; and John and Annie Gripper, Sebakwe Black Rhino Trust.

At present, the black rhino is on the brink of extinction. Over 90% of the species have been ruthlessly poached in the last 25 years. This is the fastest decline of any large mammal in recorded history. It is predicted that by the turn of the century the species will be extinct in the wild. The BRF is dedicated to promoting and encouraging the preservation of the black rhino in the wild.

The BRF wishes to thank SOSRhino for providing funding for airfare to London.
